What To Do

Assess your horse's general health using the Whole Horse Exam (WHE) and share your findings and concerns with your vet.

Your vet will probably use careful physical examination and basic diagnostic work to determine whether illness is the root cause, or whether it is simply a matter of fitness.
Questions Your Vet Might Ask:
  • What training program is the horse on?
  • Do you consider the horse to be fit?
  • How is the horse fed?
  • Has the horse tolerated this exercise intensity in the past?
  • What level of work is the horse being asked to perform?
  • What is the respiratory rate and heart rate at times post exercise?
  • What are the results of the Whole Horse Exam (WHE)?
